Sonnenalp Vail

Vision has always been the key to success for Gretl and Karlheinz Fäßler. Back in 1976 as it became clear that both their sons were interested in following in the family footsteps into the hotel business the search started for a new location for the second Sonnenalp. His pioneering spirit led Karlheinz Fäßler on a search from the coast of Portugal, over the Canadian Rockies, through numerous American ski resorts to Vail in Colorado.
Former skiing friends from his days as an FIS skier showed him not only the best powder snow in the world, they also convinced him that Vail was just the spot he was looking for to establish his "new" Sonnenalp. After talking it over with his wife and a glass or two in the bar with his long-standing ski friends the decision was made. In 1979 a small and simple motel in a prime position right next to the ski lift was the choice for the Sonnenalp in Vail/Colorado. Just one generation later this American motel has become an Alpine 5-star luxury hotel.  The Sonnenalp Vail has now been run by Johannes Fäßler and his family since 1985 and the ski resort of Vail has developed into not only America's top winter destination but also a golfing Eldorado in the summer with 14 wonderful golf courses set against the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.
